Mustangs 2019 Swim Team Update
July 14th, 2019

Tryouts

  • Still tentatively set for Monday, August 12th at the West Y.  We will confirm this date along with a time when the YMCA / EHS Athletic Director confirms with us
  • Swimmers will do a 50 yard Freestyle sprint,  100 Yard Free, and stroke of choice (optional)
  • Captains (to be announced shortly) will be the timers.   We need 4 parent volunteers to help swimmers make sure all Registration forms are given to Jennifer DeHaas who will be collecting forms at the starting blocks.  If you'd like to volunteer, please text Coach John.
  • 2019 Tryout Forms are now available on this Blog!   Look to the right-hand part of this page, complete this form and bring it to Tryouts.  We should have 4 starting blocks for Eagle.  Hand your form to the parent in charge of each lane and then swim your best!
  • *** Payment:  All payments will be made to the school, not the coaches.  Please keep in mind there are two fee's - sometimes the school only asks for one of these payments.   We will have the amount of fee's to you soon.   Here is an example:  Fee #1:  The "Pay to Participate" fee for the school might be $110 while Fee #2 the Team Swimming dues are $180 (This pays for Referee's, use of the pool, Districts, State, Team Awards, Team Shirt, Head Coach pay etc).   You would write a check to Eagle High for the full $290.  As you might imagine, the School is most interested in their $110 Pariticipation fee, but to save everyone a headache, please make sure to pay both fee's at the same time.  Thank you :)
  • Coaches will be on hand at least 30 minutes prior to tryouts to answer questions.  Warming up prior to your tryout is completely optional.
  • You must participate in 10 practices before you can swim in a meet.   If you are going to be out of town or miss practices, you need to be in contact with the Coaches.   You can swim a "double" practice (Varsity and JV) to make up ground and get credit for 2 practices.  The Team party will count as well.

    Team Party

    • Assuming Tryouts go as planned on Monday, the Team Party will be Tuesday, August 13th from 3:00pm - 6:00pm.
    • The party is at Coach John and Marcie Carters house:  3000 W Colony Ct. in Eagle.
    • The party is for swimmers and parents (JV and Varsity - ALL Swimmers).   We found it easier to not have younger siblings join in the pool as extra lifeguarding is required and can take away from the Team Activities.
    • Mustangs:  Bring your swimsuits!   There will be Swimming, Hot tubbing, Zip Lining, Trampoline, Hammock, Gazebo, Fire Pit, Annual Egg Toss Championships, Swimmer Introductions, Team Cheer and plenty of food!
    • Potluck:  (We switch the assignments around for our End of the Year Banquet)

Last name  A-E:  Please bring a side (salad, chips, fruit, etc)
Last name: F-J:   Please bring plates, plastic utensils or water bottles
Last name  K-N:  Please bring a dessert
Last name  O-Z   Please bring main dish (bucket of chicken, pizza, casserole, etc)

    Parent Meeting with Coaches:

    • Thursday, August 15th at 7:30pm in the Bleachers of the Y.
    • This is the tentative time - assuming we have 6:30pm (Varsity) and 7:30pm (JV) practice times - we will meet with all parents to discuss several items for the upcoming season and answer all questions.

    Team Dinner

    • Mustangs - Stay Tuned for details!   This will likely be Tuesday, September 10th after a quick Dry Land practice.  There is a Swim Meet at the YMCA that Eagle is not participating in, so we will do a Dry workout and then go to one of the Swimmer's homes for a great meal.

    Volunteers

    • Those of you who have been around swimming understand Volunteering is a critical part of the sport.  We need you!!
    • Volunteering is actually required with Eagle Swim - and it's really not difficult at all :)  Nearly every parent has told us they enjoyed it because they get to know the team better, got to know a few other parents, OR they just get the best seat in the house if they volunteer to time behind the blocks.  We will have a VOLUNTEER SHEET here on the Blog soon - and ask that you select one spot during the season to fill in (Snacks, Timers, Judge, etc)  One volunteer spot per family is required for your swimmer to participate in District / State.
    • JUDGES / OFFICIALS:  We are required to provide 2 per Meet.   Are you interested?   It is pretty easy to become qualified - you attend one class, watch videos and learn how to do this.    If you are interested please contact the coaches at EHSSwimming@live.com or Crystal Friday at crystalfriday@cableone.net

    See you next month,
